About Upland Bird Hunting Gun Club

Mike Tyson, Founder and CEO
Mike is the club’s head of sales, hunting and dog training. An avid wild bird hunter and preserve guide since 1994, Mike has been training bird dogs since 1992. Mike was born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana and graduated from McNeese State University in 1989.  Mike has been self employed since 1985. Mike married his wife, Laura, in 1991 and they have two children.  Mike and Laura moved to Spicewood, TX in October of 2000 when Laura transferred to the Austin branch of Baker Botts where she is a partner in the firm and practices corporate and securities law.  They are members of Westover Hills Church of Christ.

Julie Clark, COO
Julie Clark owns the ranch and facilities of UBH along with her family. Julie has a long history in the Burnet area dating back several generations and has followed her parents and grandparents in the ranching business and manages the cattle present on the ranch today. Julie is in charge of event planning, scheduling, clubhouse operations, equestrian programs, as well as other administrative duties.

Julie married Stuart Clark in 1992 and they have two children. Stuart is the Chief Security Officer and our lead instructor for the club’s pistol range program. Julie worked as a Respiratory Therapist at Seton Medical Center in Austin for 12 years after graduating from Southwest Texas State University in 1991.  Stuart graduated form the Travis County Sherriff’s Academy in 1992 and worked as a police officer in the Austin area from 1992 to 1998.  Stuart is currently the Chief Security Officer and a Senior Vice President of American Bank of Texas headquartered in Marble Falls.  Julie and Stuart are members and actively involved in Hill Country Fellowship Church in Burnet.

Brett Bowman, CFO and Procurement Officer
Brett is the Chief Financial Officer for Upland Bird Hunting, Inc. and is in charge of the Pro Shop and Purchasing for the gun club.  Brett is also an avid sportsman.  Brett earned his undergraduate degree in Engineering from the United States Military academy at West Point and served as an officer in the Corps of Engineers in Desert Storm and Somalia.  He received his MBA in Finance from Florida State University and has been employed in a variety of financial management positions at Electronic Data Systems, nLine Corporation, and currently serves as the PG Controller for Dell's OptiPlex and Precision lines of business.  Brett has been married over 15 years to his wife Tanya and they have 3 children.  They are also members of the Westover Hills Church of Christ.

Short history of UBH:
Upland Bird Hunting, Inc. was started in 1999 by Mike Tyson as a dog training club. Mike met Stuart and Julie Clark in the fall of 2004 and after extensive planning they agreed to partner in opening the Clark’s 1,000 acre ranch in Lake Victor expanding to a full service gun club.

Together Mike, Stuart and Julie found they shared several common goals. They felt that the Lord had called them to work with children and young adults. Julie had already been active in volunteering with Camp Agape Bereavement Camp for Children. It is the goal of Upland Bird Hunting, Inc. to help support these two ministries along with church groups and other non-profit organizations in order to get the area youth involved in hunting and shooting in a Christian atmosphere. The future of our sport may very well depend on the involvement of this next generation of shooters and hunters.

In order to be the best gun club and hunting preserve we can be depends upon our members.  The annual dues we receive will go towards improving our club for our members, and will allow us to keep our prices down for all the hunters and shooters who belong to Upland Bird Hunting. We plan on adding a full sporting clays course, cabins for overnight guests, horse stables, all terrain vehicles for us and our members to use, a swimming pool for our summer events, and a larger open building for hosting large group events.  This will all take place over the next few years as we grow our membership and if it is the Lord’s will for us to accomplish these goals.

We are a family owned and operated club offering members a place to hunt and shoot targets in a social atmosphere. This is a fun place for your family, friends, or business acquaintances to enjoy the outdoors.

Convenient and easy to access from Austin, San Antonio, and the Temple/Killeen area, we provide a great service to central Texas.
